The Ontario Knife Company Rat-3 is the best bang for your buck fixed blade. It’s tough, holds a great edge, and is small enough to carry anywhere. I've used mine on deployments and it still works like a charm. It's the perfect size for a comfortable, reliable everyday carry knife.

The Ontario Knife Company 18-inch Field Machete is a real chopping machine. I use it for clearing brush and limbs in the yard, and it doesn't bend or shock my hand. I specifically love the orange handle because it's easy to spot when I set it down in the brush while working.

The Old Hickory Legacy

Forging Tools That Outlast the Generations

We grew tired of flimsy tools that failed when the work actually started. Too many modern blades are built to be replaced, not to be sharpened and passed down.

We returned to the basics of 1095 carbon steel and honest craftsmanship. We stopped chasing trends and started focusing on the tools that get the job done right, every single time.

Today, we provide cutlery and gear for those who value utility over flash. When you carry Old Hickory, you’re carrying a piece of history built to survive the hardest work.

GOT QUESTIONS?

Frequently Asked Questions

Old Hickory Knives have been a staple of traditional American craftsmanship since 1889, produced by the Ontario Knife Company for over 125 years.

While we do not have a specific public database for production dates by serial number, our knives are recognized by their classic design, carbon steel blades, and brass compression rivets which have remained hallmarks of our heritage for generations.

Most of our iconic cutlery and tools, including many of our classic Old Hickory lines, are manufactured in the USA by the Ontario Knife Company in Upstate New York.

Yes, our products are built for durability and performance. We use high-quality materials like 1095 carbon steel, often featuring full-tang construction and classic hardwood handles, designed to serve as reliable tools that can last a lifetime with proper care.

You can find our full range of products and company information at our official website, myoldhickoryknives.com.

Our products are available through a wide network of authorized distributors, dealers, and major commercial retailers nationwide, or directly through our official website.

Our knives are made from 1095 carbon steel, which is not stainless. To prevent rust, hand wash and dry your knives immediately after use, and apply a light coat of food-safe mineral or vegetable oil to the blade for protection. Do not put them in the dishwasher, as the heat and moisture will damage both the steel and the hardwood handles.

The darkening you notice on the carbon steel blade is a natural patina that forms over time from contact with acidic foods or general use. This is normal and actually helps protect the steel from corrosion; it is not rust and is a sign of a well-loved, authentic tool.
